Week 4 - Spending Plans: Settings Goals & Speaking Leaks

Setting goals gives me the energy to move forward.  The act of writing my goals down and crossing them off my list makes a sense of accomplishment.

Goal setting helps me with focus and direction.  The focus to stay determined about the results I anticipate, and the guidance needed to maintain the course in the direction of my goals.

What I attempt to do with my goal setting is to surround myself with reminders.  My reminders include notes to myself, a reward and punishment system, reflection, and evaluation.

The use of reminders helps me to maintain my motivation by keeping my goals and progress on alert.

The reward and punishment system I use, help me with staying on track with the motivation to move forward.

Reflection during my goal setting stage helps me to remain optimistic about being realistic and purposeful with my goals. During the reflection process, I can take a clear look at my accomplishments, see areas that I may need improvements or adjustment and recognize my accomplishments.  Sometimes it may simply be the wrong narrative I have rehearsed that may draw me away from my goals into a distracted thought process.  Reflection helps me to redirect the distraction or false narrative.

Using an evaluation system with goals setting helps me to keep a realistic view of the normal interactions within life.  A health set back, a change in lifestyle or some other unforeseen circumstances, could be navigated or integrated within the evaluation process.

Overall, the goal setting systems for me, provides an opportunity to turn large goals into smaller, manageable, and realistic opportunities to complete any task.

  1. With our dream boards we spoke about certain dreams and goal setting. I want to pay off debts and save for a hone and retirement. But I haven't stuck to them or saved for a home yet. I'm not a good saver. I am going to set smart goals to accomplish my tasks. Will rework my budget some more. I plan on paying am additional $200 a month on my car payment to pay the $1800 I owe quicker. I am going to save $300 for an emergency savings fund.once I pay my car off, I'll start saving for a home.i will save $200 per month for it. I will be able to do this because the money I used to usefor buying my GLP1 shot, I'm no longer going to buy. I used to pay $500 per month for it. have netter goals and will accomplish my goals and dreams. I have a better plan.

    4. You're making major moves and taking charge of your financial future. You're on the right track. Setting smart goals is the way to go, and I love that you're not just talking about it but actually putting in a plan. Paying that extra $200 on your car to pay it off faster is smart, and saving $300 for an emergency is fantastic. Cutting out the $500 for the GLP1 shot is going to free up a lot of cash for your future goals, too. You're prioritizing and making sacrifices now to secure your future. Once those things are paid off, you'll even have more breathing room. You keep crushing it; stay focused and stick to the plan. Keep that same energy, and before you know it, you'll be living the dream.

    5. Paying off debts sooner helps clear off that particular loan/responsibility. It also helps with decreasing the amount of interest paid in most cases. My plan is to practice SMART goals over and over till I get it and how it relates to setting financial goals. Budgeting is my downfall.

  2. Setting the goals are a great thing, but what really has me feeling more optimistic than other times is that we are finally being taught how to properly utilize them. With a plan and education I feel that we are all going to accomplish all that we have planned. Not to mention the support system that we are gaining.

    4. You're right, setting goals is one thing, but actually learning how to use them the right way is a game-changer. Having a real plan and the tools to follow through with it makes you feel like more possibilities are possible this time around. The support team that we're holding is everything. It really helps knowing we're not alone in this. We got this!

  3. Hello Ladies,
This is 100% true. Writing goals down and checking them off? This is such a great idea to do. Nothing like seeing the progress in real-time; I love the whole system, including notes, rewards, and punishments. That's discipline. Most people talk big, but don't hold themselves accountable in the same way. I love the reflection part you mentioned. Sometimes, it is the wrong mindset that throws us off. I have to check myself and stay locked in.
Your post gave me a good insight and honestly motivated me. I've set goals in the past, but setbacks always got in the way, and I will fall off. The way you broke it down makes me want to try it again in a new, more creative way this time. Life has hit me with a few setbacks, but taking time to consider where you really are helps keep things in a new perspective. Goals have to be flexible and realistic, and your approach makes it easier to break them down into steps that actually feel like I can do it.

    2. Im thinking about making a collage like thing poster for my goals. I have enough magazines, I been saving for a moment like this. Lol

    3. Jenna, a vision board is a great idea, you're making your goals Real by putting them in front of you. I love you've been saving those magazines for these moments. It's as if you're manifesting your dreams; I'm gathering them all in one place where you can see them daily. That's how you stay motivated and keep your head in the game. Go ahead and fill out that college application. Every time you look at your vision board, you'll be reminded of what you're working towards. Keep that vision clear and never lose sight of it. Get it, girl!

    4. My next goal is to complete a collage that I can put on the fridge, that may do the trick as I find myself as a visual learner. I find it hard to dream for what I would like to achieve, I think that is because I mostly put others first.

    5. It’s really makes a difference when you’re able to see those bills drop off the list as we pay them off.

  4. Hello Ladies!!
Setting Goals is something I have always done, but I have to change the way I do it. I have to start off with small realistic goals and give my self, a realistic amount of time to check them off. We are starting to do this in my household.. so we can hold each other accountable..

    1. I feel you on that. Setting goals is important, but I love how you focus on starting small and being realistic with yourself. It is so easy to overwhelm yourself by aiming too high too fast, but breaking it down gives you space to breathe and actually succeed. It is great that you are getting your whole household involved. Having that kind of support and accountability is everything. It is like you are all in it together, sharing and keeping each other accountable. That is growth. You got this!!
